Tip: Winch Tip | Category: Miscellaneous | Recently, I was doing some routine maintnance and found that my winch wouldn't work.
I used a test light to trace the power and found that I had power to the winch. Thinking that something was wrong with the winch itself, I took it out, and took it to a repair shop.
The shop called me back the next day, saying they could find nothing wrong. They had noticed that the bottom power connection terminal had some corrosion and said that this was the probable cause of the problem.
I reinstalled the winch and cleaned the connections. It then worked exactly as it should.
Because the terminals are covered with plastic caps, water can enter and cause enough corrosion that your winch won't work when you want it to. To prevent this, apply silicone or a corrosion inhibitor to the terminals on a periodic basis. | Submitted by: daveh | | |
